Micro Molding

The definition of Micro Molding varies widely across the plastics industry, with the applications extending even smaller than the traditional definition of parts under a gram. Parts can also have “micro features” which are defined as very small design elements (0.005 in or less) with the accompanying tight tolerances. We've learned that the smaller parts on an assembly can often prove to be the most challenging, yet at the same time play some of the most critical roles in that device's performance.
Spectrum has a long-standing reputation for working with Customers to produce results that meet their needs, budget, and timeline. With micro and small part molding, all of the variables that factor into the success of your program (gating/ejection, parting lines, runner/sprues, etc.) are amplified, and it's here that the true value-add of our experienced Sales, Engineering, and Program Management teams really come to the forefront to find the best solution for your program. We have developed several unique ways to perform small part, tight tolerance, and over-molded component molding using traditional molding technologies. Our presses are equipped with very sensitive injection controls to ensure that each shot is the right size. Our equipment is run in both certified clean rooms, and class 7 and 8 manufacturing environments, based on your needs and regulatory requirements.
One of our unique strengths is our extensive experience in insert molding with both micro molding and small part molding applications. It's here we're able to provide complete assemblies for a variety of electronics, industrial, and medical applications. We have both ISO class 7 and 8 manufacturing environments for clean room programs, where we're able to mold, assemble, package, and manage the sterilization of our clients' small part insert molded assemblies.
We are set up to support long term implants and non implants alike in highly engineered materials ranging from bioabsorbable (PLA) resins to PEEK and PE. Micro Insert molding is also readily supported with these presses. Spectrum has the experience to understand how to setup a job with the proper tools and magnification at the press to accurately set and place inserts pre-shot. Upon de-molding Spectrum has the capability and the expertise to perform FAI’s and validations on in-house vision equipment to meet the customer’s needs and expectations.
