Acquisition of Apollo expands precision extrusion capabilities

June 10, 2014 — Kelpac Medical, a division of PPC Industries, has acquired a major capital position in Apollo Medical Extrusion.

Kelpac Medical is already a world leader in manufacturing and supplying custom thermoplastic medical tubing and medical packaging, with seven locations worldwide.  Apollo Medical Extrusion is the premier extruder of micro-bore tubing, catheter tubing and multi-lumen tubing of complex geometries and tight tolerances. The strategic alliance between the companies opens up new markets and manufacturing locations for Apollo Medical Extrusion, while allowing Kelpac Medical to increase its product offerings to a worldwide customer base.

Apollo Medical Extrusion, based in Sandy, Utah, is the most efficient extruder of precision micro-bore tubing in the medical device industry, as demonstrated by its offerings of single and multi-lumen off-the-shelf tubing, as well as the shortest lead times on custom tubing configurations, which can be manufactured and shipped in as little as two to three days.

Apollo also offers turnkey tooling and process development to top-tier medical device customers that have their own in-house extrusion capabilities and support of those processes via “Factory-in-a-Factory” captive extrusion. Apollo’s “World Center of Extrusion Excellence” consistently meets the tight dimensional tolerances and purity specifications required by medical balloon manufacturers and those customers that are developing cardiovascular, neurovascular, diabetes management and dialysis catheters.

Kelpac Medical is the world leader in outsourced high-quality, custom thermoplastic medical grade tubing and has custom packaging solutions, with manufacturing facilities in North and Central America, Asia and Europe. This unique dual product offering has been key to Kelpac Medical’s growth in the medical device segment.
